Dragon Con will be offering an internet streaming version of DragonConTV to members at Dragon Con 2016, available right here on dragoncon.tv.
Yes, we know fans have been demanding this for a long time. Aside from the technical issues of streaming the world’s premiere fan-run pop culture convention, there were a number of issues with guests and contracts to review before we moved forward.
For 2016, only people who have a valid Dragon Con Badge will have access to streaming. This includes members and volunteers. This extends our on-site DragonConTV feed to members outside of the convention’s host hotels.
Pre-con sales of streaming passes will be available August 16-26 through the Dragon Con online store at http://store.dragoncon.org/. On-site sales of streaming passes will be available at the Dragon Con store.
To redeem your code go to dragoncon.tv and click the "Sign In" button to create an account, then enter the code as displayed on the screen and click "Activate".
The internet stream will be the same content provided to Dragon Con host hotels on DragonConTV (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton and Westin), aside from a few panels in main programming. The hotel feed features live coverage of main programming panels, live coverage of major events (Parade, Masquerade, Friday Night Costume Contest, Wrestling), rebroadcasts of main programming panels, news updates from the convention, and a selection of fan-produced content from DragonConTV.
A schedule of broadcast content will be available 1-2 weeks prior to the convention. Note that the schedule is subject to change.
Unfortunately some of the guests at Dragon Con have studio agreements that restrict our ability to stream their convention programming.
DragonConTV offers live coverage of events from the Hyatt Centennial II/III and Marriott Atrium ballrooms. Broadcasting live from the Marriott Atrium is a new feature for 2016. We also record panels for rebroadcast from the Sheraton Grand, Westin Peachtree, Hilton Grand, and Hyatt Regency 6/7 ballrooms.
The internet stream is scheduled to start Thursday, September 1st at 12:00pm and will conclude Monday, September 5th at 2:00pm.
Absolutely not. We will still post content to the DragonConTV YouTube channel before, during and after Dragon Con 2016. You can find guest interviews, convention highlights, full coverage of the Dragon Con Parade, and the usual “comedy” you’ve come to expect from DragonConTV.
Yes, we have added several new features to DragonConTV as part of Dragon Con 2016. These will be part of the hotel channel feed and internet stream at dragoncon.tv.
Live broadcasts from the Marriott Atrium are a new feature, along with live coverage of DCW Wrestling (now a Thursday night event). DragonConTV will also produce two ‘Dragon Con Update’ breaks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to keep fans updated on the latest convention news.
Members with streaming passes can access recordings from Dragon Con 2016 for three months after the event, along with a collection of content from past conventions.
When you purchase your DragonConTV add-on from the Dragon Con store, you will be given a 12 digit code to activate your account on our website (dragoncon.tv/signup). Once your account is activated, you can watch from any computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection.
We’re geeks that like new stuff, so in general any modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) will work fine. If you must use Internet Explorer, only IE11 is supported to take advantage of the latest tools available for live video streaming.
Since this is the first year for internet streaming, Dragon Con wants to make sure we have a smooth roll out before expanding this content to a general audience.
Dragon Con will offer an expanded version of internet video streaming in 2017. Stay tuned for details.
